At the age of 15 John left home to begin studying music. He ended up at the Berklee College of music in Boston. At the age of 20 he went to Naropa University in Boulder, where he studied music with Bill Douglas and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree. After that, he traveled the world as a side man and a guitarist in various musical projects, eventually landing back in New York City. There he trained to be a producer and an engineer. He migrated to Los Angeles where he worked as a studio musician, sidemen and engineer for almost 25 years. He has taught at the musicians Institute, where he helped to develop the "Meditation for Musicians" program. He also had the opportunity to study music with Ted Greene, and recorded a number of CDs with wonderful musicians. He has returned to Colorado, teaches independently, and plays in numerous musical projects around the Front Range.
