Ferdinando Romano is an Italian double bass player, composer, and improviser who is active in the contemporary and avant-garde jazz scene. In the Top Jazz 2023, the critics' poll held by Musica Jazz magazine, he won major awards and placed second in the Italian Musician of the Year category. His new album, "Invisible Painters", combines improvised music with his passion for electronic music, synthesizers and contemporary sounds. The album was nominated for both Italian Album of the Year and Italian Ensemble of the Year.
With his previous album, "Totem", featuring Ralph Alessi, Ferdinando was awarded as "Best Italian Rising Star 2020" in Musica Jazz’s Top Jazz. He received the prestigious SIAE Award in 2021, and was selected as part of the program Nuova Generazione Jazz. He has received international acclaim from magazines all over the world and has been described as, "a poetic bassist, inspired composer and intriguing arranger", by T. Conrad of Stereophile. Ferdinando has an has an intense performance life both live and in studio, collaborating with many musicians like Ralph Alessi, Enrico Rava, Robin Eubanks, Benny Golson, Alexander Hawkins, Glenn Ferris, Logan Richardson, Elias Stemeseder, Jerome Sabbagh, Yuhan Su, Ben Van Gelder, Napoleon Murphy Brock, Tom Ollendorff, Marc Michel, Brandon Allen, Kirke Karja, Veli Kujala, Roberta Gambarini and many more.
