Emma Hedrick is an award-winning vocalist, composer, and bandleader from Indiana. Emma's original music is rooted in the harmony and style of the jazz tradition blended with attentiveness to lyric and melody from the singer-songwriter genre. For Emma, music has always been about connecting with people and her music addresses themes of belonging, love and growth. She aspires to take her audiences through the story of each song she sings and strives to use the voice in traditional and nontraditional ways. After returning from two years abroad in the Netherlands, she began work on her debut album, "Newcomer" a collection of originals based on her experiences abroad.
Her compositions have been awarded Semi-Finalist in the International Songwriting Competition and Honorable Mention in the Jazz Education Network's Young Composer Showcase. She received seven Downbeat Student Music Awards for Jazz Voice throughout high school and college. She has performed nationally and in Europe including performances at the Indy Jazz Fest, Rochester International Jazz Festival, Elkhart Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival, St. Petersburg Jazz Festival, as a part of the Aspen JAS Academy directed by Christian McBride, and in the Jong Metropole tour of the Netherlands and Germany conducted by Chris Walden. She completed her Bachelor's and Master’s of Music at the prestigious Frost School of Music and Royal Conservatoire, The Hague, respectively.
